The meeting commenced with opening remarks and a round of appreciation to all member firms from the President, setting the tone for constructive dialogue and reflection on the League’s progress over the past year. The financial report for 2024/2025 was presented, covering the League’s current account balance and outlining the budget for upcoming events in 2025/2026, as well as a review of membership benefits.
It was noted that Ms Denise Phang (MahWengKwai & Associates) had left practice, and by extension, stepped down from her position on the Board. The President then suggested that Ms Agalya J Munusamy replace the position that remained vacant by Ms Denise Phang’s departure. The attending members were asked if there were any objections to this suggestion, to which there were none. It was unanimously decided that Ms Agalya J Munusamy be elected as a Board Member of LoL.
Key discussion topics included updates from the Milan Meeting, the League’s strategic outlook for 2025/2026, and initiatives to strengthen collaboration among members through projects such as the Client/Lead Referral Project and Secondment Framework. It was highlighted that Mr Ondrej Kucera from KLB Legal, Czechia, would be travelling from Vietnam to Malaysia to work with MahWengKwai & Associates under the League’s inaugural secondment program.
Members also discussed the search for new member firms to join the League and shared input on future directions for professional development and cooperation. The President’s remarks further emphasised that the positive professional relationship between member firms can foster connections with clients, especially when it comes to cross-border legal transactions.
The meeting concluded with closing remarks by the President, followed by the election of new Board Members and an overview of upcoming events:
- March 2026 – Online Members Meeting
- 27–30 May 2026 – European Meeting, London (hosted by Harold Benjamin Solicitors, UK)
- September 2026 – Online Members Meeting
- September 2026 – 12th AGM (Seoul, South Korea)
The President gave the members a quick overview of what members can expect when Harold Benjamin hosts the League of Lawyers Annual General Meeting 2026, which is expected to take place in London, UK, from 27 to 31 May. The tentative programme includes court and chambers visits, a Law Society session, seminars on international activities, and discussions on law firm management. Additionally, there will be dinners, social events, networking opportunities, and a special evening hosted by Harold Benjamin for LoL members.
After a short break preceding the AGM, members of LoL joined the tour around the city of Hanoi, which was spearheaded by the President. The tour took participants around the Old Quarter of Hanoi, so they had the opportunity to experience authentic local cuisines, a visit and guided tour of the Hoa Lo Prison (Maison Centrale) as well as a thrilling Cyclo Ride (Vietnamese Tuk-Tuk); all the way to the famous Hanoi Train Street, known for its popular Vietnamese Egg Coffee. The tour ended with a sumptuous group dinner at the MET Restaurant.
The AGM in Hanoi was not only an important milestone for the League’s organisational development but also an opportunity for members to engage in the 38th LAWASIA Conference, exchange insights, and foster deeper professional connections across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
